Brody’s First Birthday Party

by Jessica on February 18, 2013

Brody turned one on the 13th, and we celebrated his first year this Saturday. We had his party at our house and invited our family and friends to help us celebrate. Of course, Friday was 65 degrees and sunny, so the day of the party the weatherman was calling for sleet. Because in South Carolina, that’s how we roll… completely inexplicable weather abounds. So, my outdoor decor ended up a bit soggy, but oh well, Brody didn’t see that part anyway! We went with a construction theme because Brody LOVES trucks, and it was just a good fit for him. He was very excited about his balloons, and as I anticipated, didn’t hold back for one second when that cake was put in front of him- that boy adores eating! I know some people don’t understand doing big parties for such little kids, but for me, I really enjoy event planning and making a nice party for my kids. It’s just part of who I am and what I like to do. As usual, this party was done on a budget, and while I didn’t keep receipts, I’d say this one was under $200. More than I spent on Knox’s, but this was Brody’s first party, so excess was allowed! From here on out, I think we may be doing some joint parties since the boys’ birthdays are less than a month apart. Anyway, that’s a lot of chit chat when you really just want to see the pictures! Here it is, Brody’s first birthday party:

Brody’s shirt was made by Emily at Mini Sparrows- she does a great job!!

Gravel= sausage balls (YUM)

Rocks= Chick-fil-a nuggets

Beams= Fruit kabobs

Wet cement (aka Crab Dip)

Bricks and Mortar (aka S'mores Dip & Graham Crackers)

It decided to sleet the morning of the party, hence the droopy balloons!

I printed some free coloring pages on postcard stock and made tiny coloring books tied with leftover ribbon- for free!

The big moment… the smash cake!

My new favorite picture of all time!

Playing with his new roller coaster

Waving

His hair is getting curlier and curlier...

So proud he's doing it on his own!

It was a great day for our family, and we loved every second of celebrating Brody’s first year of life. We are so blessed to be his parents- he is an amazing little boy!

How cute! You always have the cutest party ideas. I love the idea of joint parties. Mine and my sister’s birthdays are 5 months apart and my Mom had a few joint ones for us and they were fun even though they were in the middle months of our birthdays.

How cute! I hope I can manage to be as creative with my son’s party in April as you were with Brody’s and Knox’s parties.

Also, my in-laws bought the walk-along dog for my son on Christmas and he loves it! He tries to eat the nose all the time and it always surprises him when he puts his mouth on it and it makes noise.

Happy belated birthday, Brody!

What a fun party! Love all the food and decorations. I had a construction theme baby shower a few yrs ago. My baby just turned 2 over the weekend.
