Tomorrow begins the last full, free day I have to work on this insane birthday party. I have been putting off so much for tomorrow because I’ll have a babysitter or two to watch Knox so I can actually get some things accomplished. To make matters worse, we decided to be geniuses and try to mount our TV over the fireplace this week. You know, because we didn’t have enough to do. We used some gift cards to buy the mount (that didn’t fit… crap… back to Target tonight), and it will free up a lot of space in the room and allow us to have some more seating, which was sorely needed. So, we have to put the living room back together before people will actually be able to sit in it.
I just made my to-do list for tomorrow, and, well… it’s long. Like front and back of the page long. Yikes. First thing on the list is scrubbing the life out of my house until it sparkles. That’ll last five minutes, but I have to get the bulk of that done so I can just spot-clean during the week to keep it presentable. Then, off to get the thousand tiny things I have forgotten or put off getting thus far. Then, grocery shopping for the food, drinks, paper goods, etc. Oh, and getting Knox a birthday present may be a good plan. We have a couple little things, but nothing substantial. I have to make his banner, put treat bags together, pull out all my platters and such and try to figure out what’s going on which plate, how I’ll set things up, etc.
Oh yeah, and I have to finish making the curtains for my living room that were started, oh, four months ago. It’s ridiculous. I finished one set which are hanging up, but I have two more panels to hem up and a total of five curtain rods and one roman shade to install. Why, oh why, do I take on all of these little projects at one time?? I never have enough time to finish them, then it’s a mad rush to get them done before I have a zillion people in my house.
This party’s guest list is almost all family members, and just a handful of friends, but let me tell you- Knox is one loved child! Almost everyone is coming that was invited- upwards of 40 people! He may not remember this birthday party, but I’m going to take enough pictures of this event to paper the walls of my house with because this has been a lot of work! At the same time, it’s so much fun (even if it’s stressful here at the end), and I wouldn’t have had it any other way! Here’s to a VERY busy weekend of party prep! (Keep me in your thoughts… I may not make it!)

Don’t forget to enjoy your sweet boy on his special day! My best advice (having just gone through our own 1st birthday celebration) is to assign someone else the job of taking pictures. Someone you trust to get the good shots. That way you are free to enjoy the moment!
I will definitely enjoy it! I’m doing all the work now, so I can actually have fun then! That’s a great idea, to get someone else to do pictures- I believe my sister will have this task entrusted to her!
My sister-in-law took pictures at Reese’s party, it was so thoughtful, I didn’t ask her to. She got a picture with Reese and pretty much everyone that attended, I hope to make a book sometime with her party pictures!
Connor’s party is TOMORROW. (INSERT FREAK OUT HERE) I haven’t planned as many cute things as you, but my parent are flying in in about an hour and I’m so thankful they can occupy little man so that I can get the rest of my set-up done. Good luck with prep and I can’t wait to see how his party turns out!
Good luck. Hope you get it all done and I’m sure it’s going to be perfect!
good luck kid- it’ll be worth it!
Hi there. I’ve been following your blog for a while now and just wanted to say hi. You are a fantastic writer, and apparently a fantastic party planner too! I visit your blog when in need of hope and positivity – thanks!
Thank you so much, Vicky!
EEEK! I’m stressed reading this because I too have to throw a birthday party in t-minus 30 days. Where does the time go? Everyone says not to go overboard with a kids birthday party, but I can’t help it either. I wish you all the luck prepping for the big day. I can’t wait to see photos of the party. Enjoy it! xo
I’ve been following the progress of your son’s birthday party.. I hope that you will post pics from the party!
I’m sure that everything was gorgeous!
